Adam Mayo
Growing up in Dartmouth Nova Scotia, Adam gained a keen interest in coaching and personal development through his athletic background in hockey, sprint canoe kayak and snowboarding. His passion for motivating others to achieve their highest potential lead to the completion of his Honours degree in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University, in addition to becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Adam has a broad range of athletic experience working in various sport settings as a coach, athletic trainer, strength and conditioning specialist, as well as a Kinesiologist in rehab facilities. These experiences have allowed him to learn from a number of successful mentors in many areas of health, wellness and sport while successfully developing and evaluating evidence based training programs for athletes in a wide range of sporting backgrounds. In his most recent role as a club Head Coach in sprint canoe kayak, Adam was able to gain experience as a leader, mentor, educator and teammate to his staff, co-co-workers, athletes and community members while developing a number world class athletes to 12 international medals (8 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze) at the Junior and U23 World Championships.
As someone who is passionate about personal development, Adam continues to stay active in his own education. He is a recent graduate of the Advanced Coaching Diploma program, targeted toward the highest qualified coaches and leaders in Canadian Sport, as well as currently participating in the Targeted Coaching Enhancement program put on by the Canadian Sports Centre Atlantic. Both of these educational opportunities have allowed Adam to network with some of the top coaches across the country in all sports.
Adam likes to take a co-creative approach to strength and conditioning and program prescription which puts high value on the individual athlete’s goals and needs with the inclusion of their support team. He believes that two of the most important characteristics of a successful athlete are mindset and self-accountability and by creating a training environment and program that is motivating to the athlete, they will see ongoing success through their athletic career and beyond.
Outside of the work environment, Adam enjoys spending his time with his family and friends being adventurous outdoors. Whether it be hiking, camping, snowboarding, learning to surf or traveling, Adam is always looking for any new adventure explore.
